
"Safe Pavement" Hackathon

The "Safe Pavement" Hackathon took place on May 17-18, 2023 at the Library of Social Sciences, Management and Education at Tel Aviv University. The initiative is the result of cooperation between City Center, the Schmeltzer Institute for Smart Transportation, the TAU Entrepreneurship Center, the National Road Safety Authority, Or Yarok NGO, Tel Aviv Municipality and Israel Police, and is sponsored by Allon Ventures and Yango.
The Hackathon Challenge sought to find solutions derived from technology, urban planning, regulation, legislation and any combination thereof or of other relevant areas to improve the interface between pedestrians and other road users today and with the introduction of autonomous vehicles to the sidewalks.
Fifteen teams participated in the hackathon, which included students from a variety of disciplines at the university. Nine teams reached the final stage of idea presentation. During the 24-hour hackathon, which began at 11:00 on Wednesday, May 17, the groups were exposed to lectures by experts in a variety of fields related to the challenge. In addition, renowned mentors accompanied the groups on the way to creating solutions.
The hackathon's main event was preceded by a dedicated walking tour led by representatives of the Tel Aviv Municipality, Eyal Hershtik and Laura Hoffman Schaeftler, to illustrate the difficulties faced by pedestrians and other road users.
The Hackathon winners were awarded a prize of 5,000 NIS and entry tickets to the EcoMotion event.

Introduction meeting with CityZone's startups | part 2

City Center aims to connect academia and the industry, and one such connections can arise from the meeting between entrepreneurs and researchers from academia.
Together with CityZone,, a hub for urban startups located in Kiryat Atidim in Tel Aviv-Jaffa, City Center initiated a series of meetings between CityZone's startups and Tel Aviv University (TAU) research students and researchers from the urban field, in order to create a dialogue and examine opportunities for cooperation.
This is an opportunity to create an unmediated meeting between academia and the high-tech industry.
The second online meeting between the CityZone startups and City Center took place on Wednesday, June 14 at 12:00. The meeting was attended by research students from TAU, senior researchers from the field of urban studies and the entrepreneurs of CityZone.

Radgreen
Radgreen creates a healthier and safer workspace in office buildings, using a sensor-based environmental information system. The system continuously monitors air pollutants, noise and radiation while providing real-time information, alerts and responses. The goal is to help create healthy structures and a safe return to routine.
BioShade
BioShade offers an innovative biological shading solution in an automatic and modular hydroponic system adapted to growing shading plants in the city.
Ad-Knight
A.D. Knight develops technologies for identifying and understanding the movement of people and vehicles using a unique sensor that receives WiFi, Bluetooth and cellular signals.
Raizit
A start-up leading innovation in the field of public participation. Raise It's platform allows public organizations, communities and political movements to address their target audiences in a targeted manner, to consult and share with them in decision-making processes.

Introduction meeting with CityZone's startups | part 1

As an interdisciplinary research center, City Center aspires to connect the academy and the industry.
We are glad to invite research students studying in TAU to participate in a first of its kind meeting between students and urban entrepreneurs.
On Thursday, March 18th, we will hold a Q&A gathering between research students and faculty members and representatives of 5 startups operating under the City-Zone living lab.
CityZone was founded by Tel Aviv-Jaffa local government, Park Atidim Tel Aviv and Tel Aviv University to create a place for Smart City startups dealing with a range of issues such as mobility, security, infrastructure, planning, engagement, communications, culture, welfare and among others.

Model making workshop for the future city
The workshop - in collaboration with City Center- Tel Aviv University's research center for cities and urbanism, and under the guidance of a team of researchers from the Department of Geography and the Human Environment at Tel Aviv University, industrial engineering and more.
In this activity we will learn about the future of our city and build the future city together.
